Canada Reads 2010 blogger shoot

I’ve decided to post three shots in this post, so hit the “READ MORE” button below the picture to see all three. Lighting details are included, and one of them is a definite outtake that’s got some quirk to it nonetheless.
All three shots were done with a single flash, gelled 1/1 tungsten (I believe… this shoot was a little while ago but had to be held until they were disseminated online at the CBC Canada Reads 2010 website). I’d have done something fancier except, lo and behold, batteries died. This was a bit of a last minute shoot, but still a lesson in making sure you’ve not only got your batteries charged, but that you also have backups handy at all times. We did this shoot in one of the CBC Toronto building’s libraries, and the shots were to be used for the website in various blog posts and whatnot. Flannery, like many photogenic people, believed herself to be terribly un-photogenic. Despite this belief, I got her to truck through the 20 minute (hour-long?) shoot with some shits’n'giggles, evidenced by the moment I caught with the third shot below. All shots were in the neighbourhood of ISO 200, F/5.6 and a shutter of 1/80 to let a touch of the ceiling lights burn into the background.
