Time Eater was funded by the DGC (Directors Guild of Canada) as part of their Short Film Fund programme. We shot the film on location over two days, with an all-LGBTQ adult cast and a largely LGBTQ crew.
Time Eater is a Mixed State Media and Pack a Lunch Productions film. It was produced by Liz Whitmere, Robin Osmond, and myself, and associate produced by Laura Anne Harris and Anna Gustafson. I am the director, editor, and co-writer with Laura Anne Harris.
There are a few layers of horror in Time Eater but the one that keeps me up at night and originally inspired it is the fear that one day I'll look into the face of a loved one and I'll have no idea who they are. Cognitive decline is a disability that a majority of us will experience in one form of in our lifetimes, and what I find terrifying is that in many instances we won't even be aware of the extent to which it hits us.
The short film itself is an adaptation of an early scene from a feature that my co-writer Laura Anne Harris and myself are working on. Both the short and the upcoming feature are specifically written for lead actor Jane Moffat, a seasoned actress who's starred in dozens of features and television series.
